The movie for June is:
'Santosh'
Synopsis:
After her husband dies, Santosh traditionally inherits his job as a police officer in rural northern India. When a girl from a lower caste is murdered, charismatic detective Sharma involves her in the case. Under the wing of her new boss, Santosh goes all out to find out the truth. But the deeper she dives into the investigation, the more she gets caught in a web of corruption, misogyny and casteism.
Commentary:
The first feature film from British-Indian Sandhya Suri, who has previously stood out with her empathetic documentaries, is a solid, gripping police thriller in Hindi, set in rural northern India. Suri's clever script manages to combine raw suspense with a keen eye for the less attractive sides of modern India: corrupt and violent police, ingrained sexism, caste prejudice and anti-Muslim sentiment.
