Photography Walk: Sand Dunes of De Panne
Join us on a photography walk together with the Photoresk® - Brussels Photography group, where we will adventure together into the dunes of De Panne.
Whoever has had the fortune of visiting the desert knows what majestic landscape it is. A place where the perception of time and space changes leading to us new sensations, typical of a metaphysic painting, that we must impress into our photographic medium. This is a nice opportunity to train our ability to translate in photography very specific and tailored emotions.
The meeting point will be 12:15 at the roundabout at De Panne Station (see photo below). There are normally plenty of parking spots around the rail station for those coming by car. Parking at the seaside might be very difficult.
For those coming by public transportation, we can take the IC 1531 train from Leuven at 9:21, and change at 10:48 at Brugge with the IC 2310 of 11:05 to Lichtervelde, then the IC 13132 at 11:32 to De Panne (see train schedule in the photos below). You will notice that the same IC 13132 train can be caught starting from Leuven at 9:33, but in this case the connection is only 5 minutes, and is a bit too risky, but it's up to you.
Bring a lunch box and plenty of water. No particular clothes/equipment recommendations, just what you need for a winter day at the beach (sun cream, sunglasses...). If you bring a dog, in some areas it must be on a leash, due to the presence of pastures.
If the day is good we might stay at the dunes until sunset, and enjoy the spiritual exercise of noticing how the appearance of the sand changes through the day, or walk to the beach and circumnavigate the desert, but you are free to leave whenever you want. After the photo shoot we may relax in the station nearby bar Boss Rodgers, or somewhere else. There are trains to come back at Leuven at 17:52 and 18:52, plus one direct train at 19:09. After 19:52 and the last one at 20:52.
You will find attached a few images, like the graph of the sun and the moon for that day, the precise schedule of the trains and the map of the dunes, please look at this and be familiar with the different landmarks, as it would be useful to communicate positions and routes during the day.
If you think to arrive later, you can send your WhatsApp number to Andrea, the event coordinator via meetup, and he will add you in a dedicated group where you can share your position. He might not be able to reply to comments and messages on meetup on the day of the hike.
Last but not least, the last time I have been there no giant worms have pop out, in case just review the sandwalk of the Fremen people of Arrakis, if you are not sure of what I'm talking about watch this video
